Position Type: Part-Time
Minimum Age: 18+
Reports To: Club Manager
- Monday–Thursday: 4:00 PM–7:00 PM
- Saturday: 8:30 AM–12:00 PM
- Additional evening and weekend hours as needed
The ideal candidate is an experienced swim instructor who naturally takes initiative, enjoys mentoring others, communicates well, and is comfortable providing guidance and leadership in a busy pool environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee lifeguards and swim instructors during swim lesson hours.
- Provide direction, guidance, and support to staff before and during lessons.
- Lead pre-class team communication to ensure instructors and lifeguards are prepared.
- Motivate and encourage the aquatics team while maintaining a positive and professional pool-deck environment.
- Serve as a leadership presence and resource for instructors and lifeguards.
- Provide constructive feedback and coaching to help staff improve their performance.
- Communicate significant staff or operational concerns to the Club Manager.
- Be available to teach swim lessons when needed.
- Provide engaging, safe, and high-quality instruction.
- Follow established swim lesson curriculum, skill progressions, and teaching standards.
- Model excellent instructional techniques and professionalism for other instructors.
- Step in to assist with classes and pool-deck needs as necessary.
- Train and mentor new swim instructors and lifeguards.
- Help new team members learn facility expectations, safety procedures, lesson standards, and pool-deck responsibilities.
- Provide ongoing coaching and guidance to instructors.
- Create and lead quarterly staff trainings and additional trainings/in-services as needed.
- Identify opportunities for additional staff development and training.
- Maintain a strong focus on swimmer and staff safety.
- Ensure lifeguards and instructors follow all facility rules, safety procedures, and aquatics standards.
- Monitor the pool deck, pool chemicals, and address unsafe practices or rule violations promptly.
- Help maintain a clean, organized, professional, and welcoming environment for swimmers, families, and staff.
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Previous swim instruction experience is required.
- Current lifeguard certification or willingness to obtain lifeguard certification.
- Strong swimming skills and knowledge of water safety.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Comfortable leading, coaching, and providing constructive feedback to a team.
- Reliable, responsible, and able to take initiative.
- Able to remain calm and professional in a busy pool environment.
- Comfortable working evenings and weekends.
- Previous leadership or staff training experience is preferred.
This is a hands-on leadership position for someone who enjoys being on the pool deck and working with both swimmers and staff.
